But before celebrating those girls and many others, let’s first acknowledge a 100 game milestone player from Coorparoo, Freyja Atkins - and also 50 games from Wynnum Vikings current player Chelsea Schubert.

Atkins arrived at the Roos from Wynnum this year and her career not only includes playing footy, but taking footy overseas.

Atkins first taste of footy came via Auskick while at school, and then at the Wynnum Vikings.

She went on to play more than 50 matches for Wynnum, including being awarded the Junior Club Person of the Year twice.

Then in 2019-2021, Atkins had an enforced hiatus from football when she moved to Canada. However, while she didn’t play in Canada, she took her football to school and the PE teacher let Freyja teach an AFL skills lesson to her class.

Now some teachers follow footy from Canada.

Upon returning in 2022, Atkins returned to Wynnum’s under 14s to help them to the grand final, and then added umpiring to her bag of tricks.

Then last season she captained the Viking Storm Under 15s into the preliminary final.

This season has been a big year for Atkins, who moved to Coorparoo and was also awarded a scholarship for the Play Like A Girl Australia Empowerment to Lead Course.

And there was a milestone player for the Wynnum Vikings, with Chelsea Schubert playing in her 50th match for the club.

Her pace and skill were electrifying and she has a big game record, having taken out the League’s Best and Fairest in under-13s, under-15s and under-17s.

Whenever McNally was in and under with her hands on the ball, something x-factor could happen.

Her form this season indicates she will be a Best and Fairest contender again, not just for her flair and clever player, but because she was an inspiration to her teammates.
