University Barbarians have claimed its first premiership since 2015 and the first under Brad Tronc with a nail biting victory over Noosa Dolphins.
Home ground advantage proved huge for Uni, who hung on with just minutes remaining on the buzzer to secure a 10-6 win.
Just one try separated the teams who went hammer and tongs for the full 80 minutes.
The victory handed an emotional Tronc the maiden title of his coaching career.
“All the boys just busted their arse, not giving up for your mate which we have done all season,” Tronc said.
“They worked so hard for each other, worked their arses off.
“My first title as a coach, I know what it feels like to be on the other end. They can be proud of themselves in a massive effort but it‘s our time.”
The Sunshine Coast Daily will on Sunday unveil the grand final heroes and match winners.
