Competition underdogs Maroochydore Roos have surged all the way from 6th place to qualify for this weekend's QAFL grand final blockbuster against Broadbeach.

The Roos were able to overcome a 22-point fourth-quarter preliminary final deficit, kicking five goals in 10 minutes, to knock off minor premiers Broadbeach 88-78.

Head coach Andrew Cadzow said there’d be more work to be done heading into this weekend's final at Southport at 2.30pm.

“It was definitely a really good win but the feeling at the end of the match was that the boys are still dissatisfied with their achievements,” he said.

“We’ve been able to come home strong these past few games so if we’re able to stay in the contest we know what we can do.

“Our attention is all in on the grand final now where we will once again come in as heavy underdogs.”

Both Broadbeach and Maroochydore were set to play each other in the final round of the regular season but couldn't given the Covid-19 community sport ban.

Cadzow said it was a level playing field heading into Saturday's matchup, given neither side have played either this season.

“We’ve watched plenty of footage of them playing all year and we feel as if we’re match prepared heading into it all,” he said.

“It goes both ways because they haven't played us and our style of footy either so we’re up for the challenge and very much looking forward to it.”

The Sunshine Coast club only entered into the state’s top-flight competition in 2020 and Cadzow said it was a massive achievement for them to be in the club's first QAFL grand final.

“The season last year really knocked us around but also gave us a true indication of the level of competitiveness that was around us,” he said.

“We’ve settled in quicker than we thought and to be at the level we’re at in only our second season is a real reward for the everyone involved with the club.”
