The quest for the ultimate bragging rights is here as only three teams remain in the race for QAFL grand final glory.
Sunshine Coast team Maroochydore Roos has risen from sixth position on the regular season ladder to come up against the minor premiers Labrador in the preliminary final at the Cooke Murphy Oval at 2pm on Saturday.
Maroochydore Roos head coach Andrew Cadzow predicted a close finish.
“We’ve been comfortable playing Labrador throughout the season down there on what is a big ground,” he said.
“We go in as underdogs and underrated as per normal but that’s something we embrace as a team.”
The Roos went down in a nail biting contest against the Tigers in round 11, losing 87-86.
Cadzow, a two time Maroochydore premiership player and former club best and fairest winner said his players would be in the right headspace heading in this weekend’s match.
“Labrador definitely have a number of very good football players such as Pearce Hanley, Tom Simpson and Bryce Retzlaff but for us as a team we have a lot of depth,” he said.
“We have 26 really good players at our club so across the board our best 22 can match it with anybody.”
In form forward Mitch Scholard sits in second place on the goalscorers leaderboard with 58 goals for the season.
Cadzow said Scholard had been a good reason for the teams success this season.
“He’s a terrific player and a very good team orientated player for us,” Cadzow said.
“He’s been in great form all season and there’s no doubt if he had purely played full forward this year he would have kicked another 20 goals.
“We’re looking forward to seeing him hopefully have another great day out against some solid opposition on Saturday.”
