Live stream: Peregian Springs State School ready to make impact in AFLQ Schools Cup finals

Four teams give the Sunshine Coast a huge shot at state glory on home soil as the AFLQ Schools Cup goes into finals mode at Maroochydore this weekend.

Mooloolaba State School and Matthew Flinders Anglican College are aiming up at the primary female title, while Talara Primary College and Peregian Springs State School will proudly fly the flag for the region in the male equivalent.

For Peregian, it has extra special meaning as they look to make amends for their 2022 grand final defeat.

The action will be played across a three-day championship event at the Maroochydore Multisport Complex from Friday.

PSSS teacher and team manager Darren Ratten said ‘the team is super excited to progress this far into the competition.’

“Last year was the first time, as a school, that we made the state finals, and so many of the boys are hoping to go one better this year,” he said.

CATHEDRAL COLLEGE CROSS-CODE STARS AIM FOR MORE GLORY

Ratten said the team had a mix of grade six and grade five students, with the majority playing club footy for the Coolum Breakers.

“This team is very well balanced, with all players contributing and fulfilling specific roles,” he said.

“They’re very coachable, they listen and are always willing to try new things to enhance their game, which is a big thank you to Dan Fisher from the Breakers for volunteering his time to coach and train the team.”

Ratten said he was proud of his side’s journey to the finals.

“The team has developed a close bond, both at school and in the community, with every player demonstrating a growth mindset,” he said.

“As a school, we are proud of the way the students have conducted themselves at the carnival so far on and off the field.

“They have played fairly, shown sportsmanship and respect to the umpires, officials and other teams.”
