A court has heard how a Beerwah mother’s traumatic past led to 11 pages of criminal history including dangerous driving that put her passenger at risk.

Sophie Trisha Lee Morgan, 28, pleaded guilty to a raft of offences in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on November 22 and was given jail time.

Police prosecutor Nick Nitschke said one of the more serious offences involved the mother-of-three driving disqualified and evading police by conducting a U-turn over double lines and into oncoming traffic.

The offending occurred at River Heads near Hervey Bay on June 15, 2022.

Morgan said she knew she was wanted for an evade offence from the night before at 1.40am.

Magistrate Raelene Ellis said Morgan drove in a manner that endangered the life of her passenger and other road users.

Magistrate Ellis highlighted how Morgan had also committed a number of offences against friends and associates who trusted her.

“It’s just blatant offending where you stole one of your friend’s cars when she offered to give you a lift home,” Ms Ellis said.

“When she hopped out of the motor vehicle for a short period of time you hopped in the driver’s seat and drove off.

“Someone offers to do you a good deed and you take advantage of that and steal their car.”

Sergeant Nitschke said she had stolen the car on July 29 at Beerwah when her friend had stopped to drop another friend off.

He said Morgan had also broken into the same friend’s car that was in a garage and stole her laptop, camera, phone and clothing.

Sergeant Nitschke said Morgan was also found with an unloaded firearm and ammunition outside the Caloundra Hotel on August 16, 2022.

Defence Lawyer Michael Robinson said his client had a very traumatic childhood where she was sexually assaulted.

Mr Robinson said the tattoo artist had periods of homelessness and used drugs from a young age.

He said Morgan was looking into becoming a personal trainer once released from jail and was engaging in counselling.

Morgan pleaded guilty to eight disqualified drives, three evasions, fraud, enter dwelling and commit indictable offence, possessing a syringe, possessing explosives, obstructing police, two counts of stealing, three counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and possessing a weapon.

Magistrate Ellis said the offending was “extremely concerning” and sentenced Morgan to 27 months prison, with parole release on May 15, 2023.

She was disqualified from driving for two years.
