Police have released details about a backpack a man was carrying before he was found dead in a popular Sunshine Coast waterway, in the hopes of finding his loved ones who may be overseas.

The man’s body was found by a member of the public about 8.15am on Thursday, November 30, near Bradman Ave and the Sunshine Motorway overpass bridge called the Talep Bridge in Maroochydore.

The last confirmed sighting of the man was at Maroochydore Bunnings about 5.30pm on November 27, where he was seen on CCTV carrying a blue backpack.

Sunshine Coast District CIB Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Duhig said police found a blue Australian Pacific Touring backpack on the river bank in the days after the man’s body was found.

“We’ve established that it appears to the same one as in the footage,” he said.

He said he was hoping a traveller may come forward with more information about the man’s identity.
