Shaun Desmond Glen Williams allegedly falls asleep at wheel on drugs in Caloundra

Caloundra motorists were left shocked as a man allegedly ploughed over centre islands and crossed double lines while falling asleep twice due to drugs.

A 27-year-old Baringa man who was allegedly found asleep at the wheel twice in Caloundra after driving erratically has been denied bail.

Shaun Desmond Glen Williams cut a dismal figure in custody as he pushed for his freedom in Maroochydore Magistrates Court.

The 27-year-old was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle while adversely affected and driving under the influence along Caloundra Road and Bellvista Boulevard on Wednesday.

Magistrate Andrew McLaughlin said concerned motorists called police about 4pm where the 27-year-old was asleep at a set of lights.

He was woken by a passer-by and became aggressive before he allegedly drove off in an “extremely erratic” manner, the court heard.

Williams was seen several minutes later driving across double lines, crashing into signs and careering off the road before he came to a stop.

When police arrived he was asleep at the wheel again and was arrested.

Defence lawyer Kylie Anderson said Williams was using meth before the alleged incident.

The court heard there were marks on his arms however which were consistent with injecting drugs.

Magistrate McLaughlin said it was “too dangerous” for Williams to be released into the community and refused bail.

His matter was adjourned to November 17 at Caloundra Magistrates Court.
