A Eudlo man found unconscious and shirtless in a paddock had severely injured himself after a horse he was unlawfully riding bucked him into a tree.

Police were called to Wildwood Agistment and Equestrian Centre in Eudlo on August 16 to reports of Paul Andrew Bulgin trespassing.

Police prosecutor Stephen Potter said a minibus was found parked in front of the address and was registered to the 53-year-old man.

A witness said the vehicle had been there for three days while Bulgin was “acting strangely” and loitered in the area, Caloundra Magistrates Court heard.

He was also seen playing guitar and drinking alcohol with the witness saying they felt “uncomfortable” from Bulgin’s behaviour.

About 3pm on August 16 the witness found Bulgin unconscious in a paddock with only his shorts on.

He told police he had been riding one of the victim’s horses which had bucked him off into a tree and couldn’t recall what happened after that.

Sergeant Potter said Bulgin had suffered a broken nose and ribs from the fall.

Caloundra Magistrates Court heard the horse had suffered damage to its ligament and needed therapy.

Representing himself, Bulgin said he had just left a serious relationship and had turned to alcohol.

He said he had only parked at the business because it was a “nice place to play guitar” and had befriended the horse before it bucked him.

Bulgin pleaded guilty to trespassing and unlawfully using stock and was ordered to pay $835 restitution.

He was also put on a six month good behaviour bond with no conviction recorded.
