Ryan Kimball fatal crash: Bli Bli teen charged by police

Police will allege a Sunshine Coast learner driver was on his phone and speeding when he caused a crash which killed beloved teenager Ryan Kimball.

A teenager has been charged for allegedly causing the devastating crash which claimed the life of 16-year-old Buderim teen Ryan Kimball.

Police will allege a 17-year-old Bli Bli boy was driving Ryan and another teenager in a car along Finland Rd, Bli Bli on June 9 when it left the road and collided with a power pole.

Emergency services rushed to help the boys however Ryan sadly died at the scene.

The two other boys were taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in stable conditions following the crash.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said a 17-year-old Bli Bli boy had since been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death, dangerous operation of a vehicle – speeding, use of mobile phone, learning to drive must be properly supervised and learner must not drive motor vehicle unless L plates are displayed.

His matter is currently before Maroochydore Children’s Court.

Ryan’s dad Graeme Kimball said it had been a tough road in the months since losing his son.

Mr Kimball said Ryan’s younger brother and his teenage friends were “absolutely shattered”, regularly visiting their family home to remember the cheeky teen who loved boating, KFC and his mates.

“I’ve been able to get back to work after five months, it’s been tough and my employer understands,” Mr Kimball said.

“We’re just trying to move forward.”

Mates of Ryan created a Facebook group entitled “Rev For Ryan” after his death, with group members posting tributes to the Bli Bli teen which included sunsets, engine revs and boating.
