A Currimundi man remains under close monitoring in custody as he faces a public nuisance charge, while also awaiting proceedings on more serious allegations linked to his late partner’s death.
Philip Andrew Hunter, 47, appeared via video link from Woodford Correctional Centre at Caloundra Magistrates Court on Thursday, where he was charged with one count of public nuisance.
His lawyer, Rebecca Hatcher-Anderson, told the court Hunter was on a mental health liaison waitlist for an assessment and had been reluctant to leave the prison’s observation unit.
“He was on 15-minute watch intervals in the observations unit,” Ms Hatcher-Anderson said.
The court heard Hunter is also facing additional charges at Maroochydore Magistrates Court.
One of the charges is a serious assault offence related to an incident involving his partner, Kirsty Louise Hunter, in which he allegedly struck her with the handle of an axe. She later died, though the cause of her death has yet to be determined and Hunter is not charged in relation to her death.
Magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist transferred the public nuisance matter to Maroochydore for February 24, the same date his other charges are scheduled to be mentioned.
Hunter has yet to enter any pleas.
