Peter Matthew Dati committed to stand trial after Ocean St gun incident

A Sunshine Coast man accused of pulling a gun from his shorts and terrorising a group at a Maroochydore hotspot may stand trial over the alleged incident, a court has been told.

A Sunshine Coast carpentry businessman accused of terrorising a group with a pistol he pulled from his shorts at a Sunshine Coast night-life hotspot has been committed to stand trial in the District Court.

Nirimba man Peter Matthew Dati, 36, is accused of punching a man and then pulling a pistol out of his shorts and threatening a group with it in Maroochydore’s Ocean Street in November 2022.

He is also alleged to have later been caught with 6.5g of cocaine and about $2500 in cash.

Mr Dati was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm in public and while intoxicated, possessing tainted property, two charges of dangerous conduct with a weapon and possessing cocaine and is yet to enter pleas.

He faced Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Friday, August 25, where he was committed for trial in the Maroochydore District Court.

Mr Dati will face the court for all charges except possessing cocaine and possessing tainted property, the court was told.

Lawyer Rowan King said the drug charge was to be dealt with in the Supreme Court.

The tainted property charge was adjourned for a further mention in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on December 6.

No date for Mr Dati’s District Court appearance was set.
