A mother who was busted with meth and a syringe claims the drug fell from the sky.

Norelle Torbet was fined $500 in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday after she pleaded guilty to possessing methamphetamines.

Police prosecutor Nick Nitschke told the court police found Torbet in a parked car in Nambour on October 8.

Sergeant Nitschke said Torbet was extremely evasive, had slurred speech, pinpoint pupils and was unsteady on her feet.

He said police had asked her and another passenger to get out of the car when a syringe fell from her lap and landed on the road.

Sergeant Nitschke said police then searched the car and found a used syringe container in the glove box and a bag of meth in Torbet’s handbag.

“She stated she had found the clip seal bag containing the crystals in a park that afternoon,” he said.

Torbet’s defence lawyer confirmed the 49-year-old had told police the drugs “fell from the sky” but said she wasn’t relying on the claim as a defence.

He said the Mapleton resident suffered from depression and anxiety.

He said a fine was an appropriate punishment.

Magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist said given Torbet’s dated history and the small quantity a fine was appropriate.

A conviction was recorded.
