A nude outburst proved costly for a drunk skinny dipper who made a scene in front of local families at a popular Sunshine Coast beach, a court has heard.

Hooning charges in Caloundra

Families received an eyeful when a 47-year-old man stripped naked and began yelling and shouting at a popular Sunshine Coast beach, a court has heard.

Mathew Norman Carroll was fined $800 in Caloundra Magistrates Court on Wednesday after he pleaded guilty to one count of public nuisance on July 2.

Police prosecutor Stephen Potter told the court police were called to Bulcock Beach Esplanade over reports a naked man was shouting and swearing in a barbecue area.

Carroll was wearing a pair of shorts when he told police he was hanging out in the park because he was too drunk to drive home.

“(He) just laughed and said he had stripped naked to swim in the ocean and did not have any board shorts and wanted to cool down,” he said.

Police poured out a two-litre bottle of alcohol that was at the picnic table with Carroll.

Sergeant Potter said the area was in full view of families on their apartment balconies.

He said alcohol appeared to be behind the offending and suggested a period of probation might assist him.

Carroll, who had no memory of the event, said he no longer had an issue with alcohol.

He said he now had two grandchildren and had been given his driver's licence back.

Magistrate Katherine Benson noted Carroll hadn’t been before the court since 2015.

A conviction was recorded.
