A Narangba man has been arrested after dramatic scenes unfolded at a private wedding function on Hastings Street, leaving a police officer injured.
It’s understood an argument broke out between a group of people and turned physical early Friday evening at a high-end bar in Noosa’s famed dining strip.
Police said they were called to the licenced venue about 7.30pm amid reports of a disturbance.
They will allege a 25-year-old man, who had been part of the argument, verbally abused police when they arrived at the scene, and then allegedly struck out and kicked one male senior constable in the leg.
The man then allegedly resisted arrest and obstructed them while being escorted out of the venue and kicked a police car door, causing damage, police said in a statement.
“The injured officer was treated and is recovering well,” the statement read
“No one else was injured.”
The owner of the business, who asked not to be named, said the venue was booked out for the function that afternoon with normal service to resume in the evening.
He claimed the man had previously been cut off by staff who followed their responsible service of alcohol obligations and subsequent protocol from there.
He also said police were called immediately and two men were separated following the alleged argument.
The 25-year-old Narangba man was charged with serious assault police, assault police, obstruct police, resist arrest, public nuisance (with violence) and wilful damage of police property.
He was granted police bail ahead of a brief appearance in the Noosa Magistrates Court on Saturday and will return to court at a later date.
