Police are calling for witnesses to a shocking crash at West Woombye in which emergency crews were forced to cut a man free of the wreckage.

The Forensic Crash Unit is now investigating the Saturday afternoon crash, with police alleging the Holden Commodore was driving dangerously or at speed prior to it crashing into a power pole at Old Palmwoods Rd. about 3.55pm.

Emergency services and a rescue helicopter were called following the crash.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Service spokesman said smoke billowing from under the bonnet shortly after the crash, but the fire was quickly extinguished once crews arrived on-scene.

The driver was trapped inside the smoking vehicle but firefighters worked quickly to free him within an hour of being called.

Two other women were inside the car at the time of the crash but did not need to be freed from the wreckage.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said they were assessed for a head injury and abdominal pain, and neck and back pain, respectively.

The man was treated for leg and pelvic injuries, she said.

He was taken in a serious but stable condition to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital along with the two women who were in stable conditions.

Police are now appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage who may have witnessed the Holden Commodore driving at speed or dangerously to come forward.
