An aspiring FIFO worker has been arrested for allegedly trying to get a child to touch him inappropriately after already being charged with masturbating in a Sunshine Coast park.

A Battery Hill man has been refused bail after police allege his offending was “escalating” after they claim he tried to get a young girl to touch his penis.

It was not Michael James Fisher’s first alleged run-in with the law, after already facing a charge of masturbating in public.

Details of the 37-year-old’s failed bail application were heard in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court last week on charges of indecent treatment of a child, attempted indecent treatment, common assault and an indecent act in a public place. No pleas have been entered.

Police allege that Fisher came and sat next to a young girl at Dicky Beach in January while he had his penis out.

Police prosecutor Pedau Grabbe alleged the 37-year-old said to the child “do you want to touch my d--k” before he put his hand on her thigh.

Senior Constable Grabbe alleged he grabbed her hand and tried to pull it onto his penis, however she jumped up.

The court heard Fisher was already charged for an incident where Fisher allegedly masturbated in a bush at Sir Leslie Wilson Park in Dicky Beach on June 16 last year.

The police prosecutor alleged there was an “escalation” in offending from June to last week, and claimed there were possible mental health and substance concerns. She believed there was an alleged risk to the community.

Duty lawyer Michael Robinson said these risks could be mitigated through strict conditions for the steel fixer.

In reading the bail objection affidavit before the court, Mr Robinson said police alleged Fisher “has a proclivity for committing sexual offences within the local community”.

The Legal Aid lawyer rejected this, and said there was only a single allegation from June up until the recent charges this month. He believed the risk wasn’t as high as made out in court documents.

Mr Robinson said if granted bail the 37-year-old could take part in a mental health care plan along with a prohibition from alcohol.

The solicitor said the Battery Hill man was meant to be starting work as a fly in fly out worker in Rockhampton.

The court heard Fisher allegedly made some admissions to the latest offending after being identified in closed circuit footage.

Magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist said the community needed to be protected, and alleged Fisher’s conduct was “escalating” from last year to now.

Fisher was refused bail and had his matters adjourned to next month.
