A Maroochydore apartment block has been evacuated after a car went up in flames in the basement of the building.

Fire crews were first called to the apartments on Mungar St about 6.15am Monday, February 20, and a full evacuation of the building was ordered after a car was found on fire and smoke was detected in a vent.

The spokesman said the fire was confined to a room and was put out by 8.25am.

He said one of his crews had started the process of ventilating the air.
