Lloyd Hamilton Hughes fronts Maroochydore court for child abuse material charges

A 38-year-old Sunshine Coast man hoped to have his reporting obligations reduced after being charged with a string of new charges after he allegedly groomed a child under 16.

A 38-year-old Sunshine Coast man has been charged with new offences after police allegedly caught him with child abuse material.

Commonwealth prosecutor Brianna Finnegan offered no evidence to three charges including two counts of possessing or controlling child abuse material obtained or accessed using a carriage service.

She presented new bench charge sheets for eight charges including using a carriage service to groom a child under 16, using a carriage service to transmit child abuse material and possessing or controlling child abuse material obtained or accessed using a carriage service.

Mr Hughes on Friday signed a new bail document for the fresh charges.

Mr Hughes’ solicitor Chelsea Emery asked Magistrate Rod Madsen to reduce his reporting obligations from twice a week to weekly.

She said Mr Hughes had been successfully reporting since being on bail except for one occasion where he forgot.

Mr Madsen allowed Ms Emery to speak with Ms Finnegan about the bail conditions, but ultimately decided against the change.

Ms Emery asked for the matters to be adjourned to the new year.

Mr Madsen adjourned the matters to February 25.
