Little Mountain crash: Emergency services rush to Sunshine Mwy

From his hospital bed, a man has detailed a “wild” and “terrifying” four-car crash on a major Sunshine Coast road that injured him along with a child, a toddler and two others.

A man injured in a dramatic four-car crash on a busy Sunshine Coast road has detailed the “wild” and “terrifying” experience from his hospital bed, as police investigate if one of the drivers was drunk.

A toddler and a child, along with the Mooloolaba man who declined to be named, were among five injured following the crash in the southbound lane of the Sunshine Mwy, near the Karawatha Dr exit, at Mountain Creek about 10.50am yesterday, January 13.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said 10 people were looked over by paramedics following the crash.

The Mooloolaba man was travelling with his partner and their newborn and two-year-old, along with his sister-in-law, in a Mitsubishi ASX.

He said that behind them was a Hyundai Tucson and in front was a Holden Colorado.

He alleged that a Toyota Landcruiser smashed into the Hyundai “doing around 80kmh” and that the other cars in the crash were stationary.

“We were in the second car that got squashed with our newborn and two-year-old,” the man said.

“Was wild.”

The man, who was transferred in a stable condition to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital with suspected spinal injuries, was waiting to hear if he needed surgery.

“It was terrifying,” he said.

A woman and a child were taken to the same hospital in a stable condition.

A man in his 20s and a toddler were also taken in a stable condition to the Nambour Hospital.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said a 48-year-old Chatsworth man was breath-tested at the crash before being transferred to hospital where a blood test was conducted.

No charges have yet been laid.

She said police investigations are ongoing and anyone with information should come forward.
