A man who allegedly armed himself with large kitchen knives before slashing tyres and breaking into banks in a Sunshine Coast suburb has had his matters mentioned in a Sunshine Coast court.

Sunshine Coast man Frankie Wade Palmer, 41, has been charged with several offences after he allegedly slashed the tyres of seven vehicles in Patterson St, Nambour in the early hours of Sunday, January 7.

He then went to the Nambour central business district where police allege he damaged the ATM at the ANZ Bank in Lowe St before heading to the Heritage Bank in the same street.

Sunshine Coast District CIB Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Duhig said the man allegedly smashed glass at that bank and then went to the National Australia Bank in Nambour where he “forced entry” into the foyer.

“Police arrested him in Nambour,” he said.

The detective said police will allege he was also carrying “two large” kitchen knives.

The man was charged with two enter premises with intent, 13 wilful damage offences and possess knife in a public place.

Mr Palmer’s matters were mentioned in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday, January 8.

The 41-year-old did not appear in the court, however he was represented by solicitor Michael Robinson.

Mr Robinson told the court he was not confident in Mr Palmer’s mental health, requesting the bail application be adjourned for five weeks.

“He has no recollection of events over the past couple of days,” Mr Robinson said.

Mr Palmer is expected to appear back before the court for a bail application on February 12, 2024.
