A Sunshine Coast drug dealer who was jailed for trafficking marijuana to dozens of customers has been sentenced for more charges stemming from his arrest.

Paul Keith Makin, 43, was jailed in Maroochydore District Court on August 22, 2022 after his almost two-year marijuana trafficking operation was foiled.

Caloundra Magistrates Court heard two summary charges from this sentence failed to be included in his higher court appearance.

Police prosecutor Stu Lydford told the court the Mountain Creek surveyor had been intercepted along the Bruce Hwy at Coochin Creek about 11pm on March 2, 2021 during a targeted police operation.

Makin was detained for drug matters related to trafficking when several disability parking permits in other names were found in his car along with a police lanyard.

The 43-year-old told police he had found them at his work but couldn’t explain why he didn’t contact those who the permits belonged to.

The court heard his Buddina home was raided the next day on March 3, 2022 where 14 large fireworks were uncovered.

Defence lawyer Belinda Robinson said in court Makin had been jailed for three years to be suspended after serving six months for indictable matters on August 22, 2022, with Makin appearing in Caloundra Magistrates Court by video-link from jail.

The Sunshine Coast Daily reported this indictable drug trafficking sentence in Maroochydore District Court where the court heard Makin had sold street-level amounts of marijuana for almost two years to more than 40 customers.

Ms Robinson said there was an error in transferring the charges which stemmed from this arrest to the District Court sentence which is why they were adjourned to the Caloundra jurisdiction.

Makin pleaded guilty to possessing tainted property and authority required to possess explosives and was convicted and not further punished.

Convictions were recorded.
