An established doctor who has worked at hospitals across Queensland has been accused of sexual assault at a Sunshine Coast country club.

Court documents state South African born Palmview anaesthetist Morne Terblanche, 53, is alleged to have sexually assaulted an unknown person on February 4, 2023, at the Mooloolah Valley Country Club at Glenview. He has not entered a plea.

The allegations can be revealed after new legislation, which lifts a prohibition on identifying people facing prescribed sexual offence allegations before they are committed to stand trial, came into effect at midnight on October 3, 2023.

Dr Terblanche has worked at the Bundaberg Base Hospital and within the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service.

In 2021 he was named in the Hospital and Health Service’s annual report as the Clinical Council Co-Chair after working as the Director of Anaesthetics on the Coast.

The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency states Dr Terblanche is still a registered doctor with no conditions, undertakings or reprimands on his licence.

A Sunshine Coast Health and Hospital Service spokesperson said Dr Terblanche was no longer employed at the Health Service.

He is expected to appear in the Maroochydore District Court for the next call-over on November 15, 2023.
