A budding MMA fighter has been arrested after he allegedly spat in the face of a woman following a heated argument in Bli Bli.

Dallas Michael Denniss Hicks was granted bail on one charge of assault in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on August 4, 2022.

Court documents say the 23-year-old Buderim factory hand had been arrested at a home in Bli Bli on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 after he was involved in a physical and verbal fight with a woman he knew.

Police allege in court documents Mr Hicks spat directly into the woman's face, causing spit to enter her eye.

The Buderim man then allegedly spat on her head several times.

Mr Hicks was represented by duty lawyer Rachel Holland during his appearance by video-link, where he was granted bail on strict conditions.

Police prosecutor Brendan Newman said there would be case conferencing on the alleged offence, with Ms Holland saying she will propose to downgrade the charge to common assault.

Court documents say Mr Hicks had moved from the Northern Territory two years ago and had been training to be an MMA fighter.

His matter was adjourned to Monday August 8, 2022, and was released on bail.
