A young Caloundra mum has been granted bail after she was allegedly caught carrying drugs in a popular Sunshine Coast shopping centre.
Chloe Louise Boyd, 26, appeared via video link at the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on August 1, 2022, to apply for bail.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Stephen Potter said Boyd had been arrested on July 30, 2022, after police allegedly discovered she was carrying drugs when they searched her at Caloundra Shopping Centre.
Boyd is charged with four drug offences, including two counts of possessing a dangerous drug.
The court heard police allegedly found 0.7g methamphetamine and 115ml of GHB, both of which are yet to be tested.
Sergeant Potter objected to Boyd’s bail application because of her potential risk of failing to appear before court at a later date.
The court heard Boyd was on a suspended sentence and probation for similar drug offences at the time when she was allegedly busted in possession at the shops.
Sergeant Potter said Boyd “should remain in custody for their own protection” as there was an “issue with drug use”.
Boyd’s solicitor, Alan Phillips, said his client knew she needed to “sort herself out” and work on her issue with drugs.
Mr Phillips said Boyd had been doing well on probation but as her sentence continued, probation officers had seemed to step back with their supervision.
He asked the court to place her before Court Link, which acts as a more “intensive supervision” program.
“If she doesn’t do well on that program, (the police) can always put an application to revoke bail,” Mr Phillips said.
Acting magistrate Raelene Ellis granted Boyd’s bail application after she found there to be no real risk of her failing to appear.
“The real concern for me is the risk of committing further offences, especially when she has a history of drug offending … and she was located with the drugs on her,” Ms Ellis said.
Boyd was granted bail and ordered to undergo random drug tests by police, report weekly and abide to a 7pm to 7am curfew.
She was also banned from Caloundra Shopping Centre.
Her matter was adjourned to August 25, 2022.
