Sunshine Coast detectives have arrested a man who donned a Scream mask and fled from the scene of an alleged armed robbery on an e-scooter in Sippy Downs overnight.

Maroochydore Criminal Investigation Branch detectives allege a Sippy Downs man entered a IGA Local Grocer Chancellor Park about 7pm on Monday November 7 wearing a novelty face mask before he allegedly produced a knife.

Police allege the 23-year-old demanded cash from two staff members, who complied and were not physically injured before he fled the scene on an e-scooter.

Officers aided by the dog squad and a police helicopter assisted in the search with several residents seeing the police chopper circling their neighbourhood.

The man was later tracked to nearby bushland off Varsity Dr where he was taken into custody.

During the arrest, police will allege the man struck out at numerous officers, who suffered minor injuries which didn’t require hospitalisation.

It’s understood the Sippy Downs man allegedly tried to grab an officer’s gun.

Detectives charged the 23-year-old with one count each of armed robbery and serious assault police.

He was denied police bail and will appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Tuesday November 8.
