A SELF-confessed kleptomaniac who steals after receiving bad news was caught on her latest spree after a cancer diagnosis.
Samantha Vivienne Graham, 49, stole a 600ml bottle of vodka and was found in possession of clothes suspected of being stolen with price tags and no receipts on May 1 at Carindale.
The Kings Beach woman had a history of dishonesty and admitted she “has a problem” with stealing when she pleaded guilty in Caloundra Magistrates Court on Wednesday to stealing.
Duty lawyer Greg Lee said Graham stole things when she received bad news, and her latest spree was spurred on by her cervical cancer diagnosis in April.
Graham was seeing a counsellor to “overcome her tendencies”, but accepted it was no excuse for her behaviour.
Magistrate Haydn Stjernqivst ordered Graham completed 50 hours community service, and no conviction was recorded.
