A man has faced court after he was charged with allegedly kidnapping a woman and repeatedly punching an elderly man in the head while trying to steal his car to escape police.
Police allege around 6.30pm on September 16, Anthony Sebastian Oliver threatened a woman who was known to him and demanded she get into the Mazda 3 he was driving.
Officers tracked the car in an unmarked police car before successfully deploying a tyre deflation device on Nambour Connection Rd near the Big Pineapple.
Police allege the 21-year-old man accelerated away before proceeding through a red light and crashing into a Toyota Camry at the intersection with Maroochydore Rd.
Police allege he then fled from the Mazda 3 and ran into the northbound traffic of the Bruce Highway.
A RAV4 stopped and the man allegedly punched the driver, a 64-year-old man, in the head several times before pulling him from the vehicle.
Mr Oliver allegedly got into the vehicle and attempted to drive away, however a 52-year-old woman in the passenger seat pressed the “push button” to stop the car.
He was unable to start the vehicle again as the driver, who had the proximity keys in his pocket, was not in the vehicle.
Police then arrested the man.
Mr Oliver was charged with one count of deprivation of liberty (DV offence), robbery with violence and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
Mr Oliver’s matter was mentioned in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Tuesday, September 17.
Defence lawyer Tim Hishon told the court his client will remain on remand in custody and will require a brief of evidence to be ordered for the set of three charges.
Acting magistrate Janelle Boegheim adjourned the matter to November 12.
The court heard Mr Oliver is facing a separate set of 21 charges which will be mentioned on the same date.
Police prosecutor Mel Pyke ordered a brief of evidence in relation to a stalking charge and armed robbery with violence charge from the bundle of 21.
The set of 21 charges also include wilful damage, assault occasioning bodily harm, three counts of unlawfully using a vehicle, two of going armed to cause fear, one of dangerously operating a vehicle and three counts of entering a dwelling and committing an offence.
Of these charges, allegations include Mr Oliver entering a home and stealing a pair of shoes, as well as an air compressor and keys from another home in September.
Documents show police allege Mr Oliver also robbed a woman at knifepoint before becoming violent with a man in Nambour on August 31.
Court documents reveal Mr Oliver has been slapped with a further 10 charges, bringing the count to 34 alleged offences.
The charges include three offences which allegedly occurred in September, being entering a premise and committing an indictable offence, entering a dwelling and committing an offence and unlawfully using a vehicle at night.
The remaining seven charges are alleged to have almost all occurred on July 2, which include possessing and discharging a pen gun in public, possessing a knife in public and unlawfully using and attempting to unlawfully use a vehicle, documents show.
