Two Cooroibah brothers have been arrested after they allegedly burgled a Tewantin home before attacking a 64-year-old man who chased them with a wooden stick.

Aaron Ben Towle-Cotter and his brother Adam James Towle-McCully, 20 and 27, were arrested on Monday, July 11, 2022 over an alleged incident in Tewantin.

Police allege the 64-year-old man and his wife arrived at their Tewantin home about 12.30pm Monday to find two men inside.

It’s alleged by police in court documents Mr Towle-Cotter and Mr Towle-McCully attacked the man, inflicting cuts and bruises to his face.

Both men allegedly ran from the home with the victim following them in his car down the road while holding a long wooden stick.

Police allege he found the pair but was punched in the face through the car’s open window by one of the brothers.

Mr Towle-Cotter grabbed the wooden stick from the Tewantin man’s car and then allegedly struck his car three times.

Both men fled in a vehicle but were arrested at their Cooroibah home three hours later.

The Tewantin man was taken to hospital for treatment while police investigated.

Witnesses, video footage and a bag containing a bail undertaking for Mr Towle-McCully left at the scene linked both brothers to the incident, police allege.

Police allege property belonging to the victim was found in the “getaway vehicle”.

A bag left at the scene also contained a set of motorcycle keys inside belonging to the Tewantin man.

Police allege in court documents the pair were of “identical appearance physically” and wearing similar clothes when they were arrested to the men identified by the alleged victim and on CCTV.

Mr Towle-Cotter applied for bail in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, where his solicitor Kylie Anderson said the bakery worker had no history and would comply with bail conditions.

The 20-year-old was granted bail while his brother Mr Towle-McCully had his matters adjourned to Wednesday, July 12, 2022.

Both men face two counts of serious assault, enter dwelling and commit indictable offence, attempted unlawful use of a motor vehicle and wilful damage.

Mr Towle-Cotter had his matters adjourned to September 2, 2022.
