A personal trainer with eight years’ experience has opened his own gym in the heart of the Sunshine Coast, encouraging their members of all fitness levels to train smarter, not harder.

Co-owner of BFT Maroochydore Ben Keck said the turnout and atmosphere was “amazing” for the opening of his dream business at the start of April.

“It’s been everything I have wanted it to be and more,” Mr Keck told the Sunshine Coast Daily.

BFT Maroochydore employs a head trainer and three gym floor trainers to run classes for members of all fitness levels and ages.

“We have members who are triathletes and members who are 65 that just want to keep exercising to feel good,” Mr Keck said.

“The community we are creating and the amount of difference in fitness levels we have getting involved is awesome. We welcome everyone with open arms.”

Mr Keck has been a Sunshine Coast resident for most of his life and has trained in gyms since 2002.

“I’ve run my own PT business since 2014 in the largest gyms on the Sunshine Coast,” he said.

Mr Keck decided to step down from the head trainer role at Fitness Cartel after four years to bring BFT to Maroochydore.

The renovations for his new gym took slightly longer than expected with Covid-19 and the floods to contend with, but after nine months of hard work Mr Keck’s dream finally became a reality.

“We took over two tenancies to create a fantastic layout,” he said.

“The team I work with are awesome and really know how to design a great club.”

The personal trainer of eight years said the feedback from BFT members and the public has been “super positive” and the team after “over the moon” with how it all turned out.

The gym uses a science-based approach to training and gives members the best of both worlds through strength and conditioning training as well as cardio and functional training.

Mr Keck said the BFT model stood out to him as it offered a personal training experience within a group atmosphere.

“There are a lot of fitness centres opening up and I wanted to find something that I could back 100 per cent with my understanding of the industry,” he said.

“We have 13 different types of workouts and prescribe programming in blocks of five to six weeks, even our current block of strength training is a nine week block of programming.”

Mr Keck said he is looking forward to the future of the business and will consider bringing on more trainers if the class times expand.
