Woman falls 15m onto rocks after slipping in national park

A woman has been winched into a helicopter from the scene of a fall onto rocks at a popular Coast attraction. WATCH THE RESCUE

UPDATE 9AM: A rescue helicopter crew was able to winch a paramedic into a remote area of Noosa National Park after a woman fell about 15m onto rocks.

The paramedic was lowered down to the Paradise Caves section of the park to treat the woman, aged in her 20s, for suspected spinal injuries and cuts to her face.

An RACQ LifeFlight spokeswoman said it was believed she had slipped while on a scenic walk.

The alarm was raised about 5pm Saturday.

RACQ LifeFlight aircrew officer Rick Harvey said the area was extremely slippery and steep.

"Because of the difficult terrain, it was decided the safest way to rescue the patient, was to winch her out," Mr Harvey said.

"To further assist with the extraction, I lowered an RACQ LifeFlight rescue aircrew officer down to the scene."

The woman was stabilised and hoisted up to the chopper, on a stretcher.

The rescue crew was able to complete the extraction before bad weather reached the area.

"We were in constant contact with the Sunshine Coast Airport air traffic control tower staff, about the approaching weather system," Mr Harvey said.

"With their help, we were able to safely make it back to base, unaffected by the storm."

The woman was taken from the airport in an ambulance to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said the 20-year-old woman sustained cuts to her face and was flown in the RACQ LifeFlight helicopter from Paradise Caves in Noosa National Park to Sunshine Coast Airport.

From there she was taken by ambulance in stable condition to Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

EARLIER: A major rescue is under way to move a person who reportedly fell 10m onto rocks within the Noosa National Park.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said crews were called to the Paradise Caves area of the park about 5pm Saturday.

An RACQ LifeFlight spokeswoman said the Sunshine Coast helicopter had been called to winch an injured person from the scene.

Surf life savers have also assisted with the rescue.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said the patient was in a stable condition.
