Latest details revealed in court for Nicholas Alan Semler Mitaros accused of fatal crash

There were emotional scenes as loved ones of Dawlon Smith-Saunders attended a Sunshine Coast courtroom and faced the driver accused of killing the 12-year-old boy in a horror car crash.
Nicholas Alan Semler Mitaros, 27, was charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death and driving over the general alcohol limit whilst not owning a licence following the fatal crash at Bli Bli.
Mr Semler Mitaros, who appeared via video, has also been charged with stealing in relation to an incident on September 9.
He is yet to enter any pleas.
Dawlon was riding his scooter along David Low Way at Bli Bli when he was allegedly struck by a ute driven by Mr Semler Mitaros about 5.10pm on September 3.
He suffered critical injuries and was flown to the Queensland’s Children’s Hospital, but died two weeks later on September 17.
Law clerk James Blanche from Smith Criminal Law represented Mr Semler Mitaros who appeared on video link in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on December 15.
Two supporters of Dawlon, one who had pinned a small photo of Dawlon on their jacket, entered the public gallery for the latest update.
Mr Blanche told the court a brief of evidence had been received from prosecutions and asked for an adjournment in order for his office to view the files.
Magistrate Rod Madsen adjourned the matter to January 19, 2024 for committal mention.
Following the adjournment, Dawlon’s loved ones rushed out of the courtroom.
Court documents previously showed that a police ticket alleged Mr Semler Mitaros returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.069 after the crash.
The stealing charge came after he allegedly stole a bottle of wine from BWS Maroochydore, documents had revealed.
Mr Semler Mitaros has been remanded in custody.
