A three-storey hotel has been proposed for one of Noosa’s tourist strips with a preposition to replace on-street carparking with an improved cycle lane.

Pivotal Perspective lodged a development application to Noosa Shire Council on behalf of Gympie Terrace Pty Ltd to establish short term accommodation and food and drink outlets.

The prospective site is located at 203-207 Gympie Terrace, Noosaville with additional frontage to Thomast St and Albert St.

The application was lodged in June and is currently subject to a further information request.

Plans show the hotel would offer 25 rooms, consisting of 14 two-bedroom, eight one-bedroom and three three-bedroom apartments.

Each unit would include cooking facilities, security and airflow whilst the hotel would offer six private rooftop pools and private roof terraces.

If approved, the development would feature four restaurant tenancies with outdoor dining on the ground floor.

Documents also outlined a proposal to implement a new footpath spanning 2.5m in width alongside a widened cycling lane by removing the currently existing on-street parking alongside the frontage to Gympie Terrace and Thomas St.

The new infrastructure is intended to “promote active transport and pedestrian connection to the river,” documents stated.

The application went on to state the landscaping and street changes would be beneficial to the community and would “establish a great place characterised by a strong link between the commercial and footpath dining”.

The removal of carparking spaces would “enhance Noosa sustainability credentials” in favour of advancing alternative transport options, documents stated.

Plans also include 40 car parks and 16 bicycle spaces within the basement and 13 car parks, 19 motorcycle spaces and 32 bicycle spaces on ground level.

The application states the subject area has been zoned as tourist accommodation and is a “key corner” in the Noosaville Framework and Character Plan, thus requiring high standard architectural design and landscaping which fosters social and business interaction.

The surrounding areas include the Apex Park Noosa River foreshore area and jetty across Gympie Terrace, three-storey residential apartments and commercial blocks along Thomas St.

The site currently houses a small single-storey commercial precinct housing restaurants, an office, health care facilities and other shops.
