The latest design for a proposed lakeside church on the Sunshine Coast has been revealed, as rising costs push the development application into its sixth year.

The History Maker Church, HistoryMaker Australia Ltd, submitted the latest development application to the Sunshine Coast Council last week, revealing their updated and modified plans for the property on Sportsman Parade, Bokarina.

Property data shows the History Maker bought the 2670sqm block in May 2009 for $770,000.

According to the development application the latest church design would result in a slightly larger build, increasing the gross floor area by approximately 13sqm.

“The change to the overall design has resulted in a minor increase in gross floor area by converting one plant room of 13.72m2 to an office, reshuffling of the toilet locations and has resulted in some changes to window locations at the frontage as a result.”

Nearly six years since a lakeside church proposal was first granted approval, an updated design has been resubmitted to the Sunshine Coast Council.

The report stated a number of design features had been changed, including replacing corrugated iron cladding with weatherboards, due to material cost increases since the initial plans were approved.

“The marginal changes to the approved structure have been instigated to enable the facility to function more efficiently, better meet anticipated needs and assist in addressing the ongoing but significant rise in building costs,” the report stated.

“While the external appearance of the proposed building still achieves a high quality design finish, including building form articulation, window coverage, roof overhangs, and other treatments, and all civil works and the overall concept remain the same, the changes to the design require the approved plans to be modified, resulting in a minor change to the current approval.”

The development was initially granted approval in October 2018 before History Maker sought to make a series of changes to the approved design.

The last application to be approved by the council was in January 2023.
