Excitement was in the air on the Sunshine Coast as rumours spread at the region’s airport that US superstar Drew Barrymore was taking off this morning.

Two private planes parked on the tarmac before 10am before two black vans, with blacked out windows, drove slowly onto the tarmac after 10am parking close to plane VH-RIU.

A few people could be seen getting belongings out of the van but, sadly for a small group of excited fans, no one got a glimpse of Barrymore.

One woman, dressed in black with a dark-coloured pullover and white sneakers, was seen talking to the vehicle escort before she hopped on the plane.

It was not known how long Barrymore was on the Sunshine Coast or what she was doing in the region.

The pilot from the Sunshine Coast Aero Club said while they did not often hear about celebrities coming through the airport, “quite a few” did touch down on the Sunshine Coast.

The business tasked with flying the VIP this morning denied any knowledge of the rumour Barrymore was about to get on the plane.
