The homeowner who lives in a Sunshine Coast mega-mansion described as a “concrete masterpiece” when winning a prestigious building award has shared his thoughts on the victory.

The beachfront home on Wilson Ave in Dicky Beach, which some locals dubbed the “super IGA” during construction, was named Sunshine Coast’s house of the year at the Sunshine Coast Master Builders 2023 Housing and Construction Awards.

Nick Hayes Constructions was awarded house of the year and best residential kitchen for homes over $10m for its work on Wilson Beach House.

Owner Michael Kerr moved into the home less than a year ago and said he was “very happy” with the builder and delighted with the property.

“It’s exactly what we were looking for,” he said.

The Sunshine Coast resident of nearly 20 years said the builder did an “amazing” job.

“He was a pleasure to work with, him and his team were brilliant,” Mr Kerr said.

“We’re just very happy for the builder and it’s a builder’s award.”

The home was described during the awards as a “highly sophisticated, engineered structure” with incredible ocean views.

Judges’ comments included that no expense was spared in the home.

“Any person living in the house would not be found wanting as all facilities have been provided for both the owner and guests,” the judges stated.

“The builder’s technical ability and approach to finding innovative ways to incorporate services within the construction of an all-off-form concrete internal structure is evident throughout the build.”

The home has a pool, a tennis and basketball court, a theatre room and a below-ground carpark.

During the building’s construction, Caloundra residents pondered who might take up residence and even considered that a celebrity may move in.
