Developer Stephen Hopes places company into voluntary liquidation

A Sunshine Coast-based developer, known for a number of high-profile, luxury developments, has placed one of his companies into voluntary liquidation.

A Sunshine Coast-based developer, known for a number of high-profile, luxury developments, has begun the process of winding one of his companies up.

Australian Securities and Investments Commission documents show the company, North Birtinya Developments Pty Ltd, entered liquidation on July 15, 2025.

According to ASIC documents, Sunshine Coast man Stephen Mark Hopes acted as the co-director of the company, along with Buderim man Russell Glenn Piggott.

The company was created in Fortitude Valley in 2018, with both Mr Piggott and Mr Hopes working as directors since its establishment.

The ASIC notice stated Mr Piggott was also appointed as the company’s liquidator.

Mr Hopes, who is also the director of the development company, Constructions161 Pty Ltd, completed the luxury 106-unit Jewel Residences development on Birtinya Island.

It is not suggested Constructions161 Pty Ltd is impacted by the liquidation of Mr Hopes separate company.

Mr Hopes told this publication North Birtinya Developments owed no money to creditors and had not completed any projects for a number of years.
