A man has died at Coolum Beach on Father’s Day despite the best efforts of lifeguards trying to save his life.

Lifeguards pulled the man from the surf at the main beach along David Low Way about 9.25am on Sunday September 4, 2022.

A Queensland Police spokesman said lifeguards desperately tried to revive the Coolum Beach man in his 60s, but he sadly died at the scene.

The heartbroken wife of the Coolum Beach clubbie and former paramedic Lindsay Crofton says her beloved husband “lived for the beach” following his tragic death.

Coolum Beach acting lifeguard supervisor Rowan Simpson said the man had washed ashore near their drone area.

“Our drone pilots saw him being assisted in by members of the public and some of his friends,” Mr Simpson said.

“We went in straight away to get him out of the water and started doing CPR.”

Mr Simpson said the incident was “unfortunate” with his lifeguards having a large debrief following the tragic death.

“We’ve got peer support officers in place … the lifeguards are doing pretty well at this stage but I’ll check back in with them,” he said.

Police are treating the Coolum Beach man’s death as non suspicious.
