A man accused of damaging and setting fire to property to camping equipment at a Sunshine Coast rest stop has been named in court.
Caloundra West man Tatenda Kelvin Remigio Kopera, 27, has been charged with several offences including three counts of arson, two of wilful damage, one of common assault, one of possessing drugs and one of breaching bail.
His matter was mentioned for the first time in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on June 19.
Court documents list his occupation as a powder coater.
Mr Kopera was arrested on June 18 after he allegedly set fire to camping equipment at the Jowarra Park rest area in Glenview.
Police had previously alleged a man had approached officers with a metal pole, before being taken into custody without incident.
A QFD spokesman said on June 18 one motor home, six camper trailers and tents, and one motorcycle went up in flames.
Duty lawyer Michael Robinson appeared on behalf of Mr Kopera and asked for the matter to be adjourned for committal mention.
He said Mr Kopera would hopefully have secured Legal Aid funding upon his next court appearance.
Mr Robinson told the court the matter would ultimately move to a committal hand-up, and it was expected it would take about seven weeks to put a brief of evidence together.
The matter was adjourned to August 7.
Mr Kopera did not apply for bail and has been remanded in custody.
Documents revealed the alleged arson offences relate to setting a camper trailer, motorhome and motorcycle on fire.
The two charges of wilful damage relate to two separate box trailers.
Documents show one of the owners of the box trailers was allegedly assaulted, resulting in the charge of common assault.
Mr Kopera is also alleged to have had meth in his possession.
The breach of bail is alleged to have occurred between June 9 and 19, after conditions were set on June 10 in Brisbane Magistrates Court, documents stated.
