A Gympie man charged with attempted murder after an alleged hit-and-run which left a husband and wife injured had his matter mentioned in court for the first time.

Colin James Tupper’s defence lawyer Matthew Cooper requested an adjournment at Maroochydore Magistrates Court on May 24 for a “potential” bail application.

Acting magistrate Raelene Ellis adjourned the matter to May 29, 2023 and Mr Tupper, 34, was remanded in custody.

Police allege the hit and run at Sorensen Rd, Gympie, occurred after an argument between the three people.

Mr Tupper allegedly got behind the wheel and run the two people over about 10pm Monday, according to police.

A 32-year-old woman suffered serious head and chest injuries and was taken to Gympie Hospital before being flown to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

The other alleged victim, a 41-year-old man, had minor leg injuries.

According to court documents the victims were Carla and Brett Benson.

It is alleged the driver fled the scene before turning himself into the Gympie Watchhouse shortly after midnight, where he was arrested.

He allegedly returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.072 at the station, police said in a statement.

Court documents show Mr Tupper has also been charged for damaging a fence and garden bed during the incident.

Mr Tupper has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, one of driving a vehicle while over the middle alcohol limit, one of failing to remain at the scene of an incident to give assistance and one count of wilful damage.
