Louise White reaching new heights with small Sunshine Coast stable

It’s about quality over quantity for a rising Sunshine Coast trainer who with her small stable is prospering in the metropolitan ranks ahead of the winter carnival.

Sunshine Coast trainer Louise White has continued to shine against Queensland's top ranked trainers despite her small stable size.

White, who is a protege of racing Hall of Famer Les Bridge before going out on her own in 2009, has recorded five winners and two placings from 18 metropolitan starts this season with an average winning odds of $22.60 at Doomben.

She currently sits 31st on the Queensland Metropolitan trainers leaderboard and said she was very proud of her efforts.

“I’ve had a very good run recently with Irish Songs and obviously Kokopo Kitty winning in town,” she said.

“I’ve only got a small team and we’re naturally down to just five horses in work and two of them are going through the Broodmare Sales on May 23.”

She said she was thrilled to see Kokopo Kitty cross the line on March 15 for a well deserved metropolitan win at Eagle Farm.

“She was meant to run at Caloundra on the Sunday but those last two races were washed out so we went into town and it was great to see her get that metro win because she’s always had that ability,” she said.

White has two nominated runners for the Eagle Farm meeting on May 27.

“Hakkai Maru will most likely go to Doomben the following Wednesday but Irish Songs is accepted and likely to be an emergency in the Kingsford Smith Cup Group 1,” she said.

“Obviously Irish Songs, we only purchased him in December but he’s really thriving in Queensland and I’m very happy to get an old horse like that back to his best.

“He missed out on the Group 3 BRC Sprint last week so we’ll wait and see there but he could step up.”

White said she was still playing the waiting game with her small team but hoped to have two or three runners line up on Ipswich Cup and Caloundra Cup Day.

“I’ve just got to find the most suitable races for each individual,” White said.

“I’m likely to have some for Ipswich and hopefully for Caloundra too but we’ve just got to wait and see how the next few weeks pan out.”
