SG Bakery will be opening their fourth Sunshine Coast store in Coolum Village Shopping Centre on Thursday December 1, capitalising on their growing popularity.

Owners Betty and Tony Dang first opened in Baringa in 2019 before they expanded into Caloundra.

They weathered the pandemic through the support of return customers, pushing on to open another store in Buderim in 2021 and have turned to Coolum Beach to extend their reach.

“We loved the beach there and we thought it would suit the people there, especially when there’s no bakery in that area either,” Mrs Dang said.

“That’s why we thought Coolum would be a great place to open.”

Mrs Dang said the couple had worked previously in Australian bakeries and had introduced traditional Vietnamese street food in the form of banh mis to their menus with great success.

The banh mi is a hybrid of French and Vietnamese cuisine, fusing a crispy baguette with delicious Vietnamese flavours.

Banh mis originate from the Vietnamese town of Saigon, which Mr and Mrs Dang named their bakery after.

To counter the savoury flavours of these baguettes, SG Bakery was also offering Australian favourites in the form of pastries, doughnuts, pies and sausage rolls.

“We’re baking up to 1000 pies a day across all of our stores,” Mr Dang said.

“We learnt the secret recipe and added our alteration from our past, and we’ve received huge feedback from our customers.”

SG Bakery employs more than a dozen workers across their stores which included bakers, front of house staff and delivery drivers.

They will open on December 1 at their new shopfront in Coolum Village shopping centre along Birtwill St.
