A gluten free baker with more than 20 years’ experience home baking and selling produce at market stalls is about to open her first ever brick and mortar venue.

The Buderim Cookie Co. is preparing to open in Burnett St in the next few weeks, pending arrival of several special ingredients.

Buderim native Anja Mew founded the business back in 2004 and had been selling her range of biscuits and pastries at markets across the Sunshine Coast for several years.

Ms Mew was now preparing to open her new shop selling exclusively gluten-free options, with no fears of cross contamination for her customers.

News of her pending opening had been circulating with much excitement in the community which Ms Mew said had left her head “spinning”.

Ms Mew said after having her home-based business for more than two decades combined with her fight with illness and family life, it was time for her to “fly free” into a business chapter.

“The great thing with it being a 100 per cent gluten free bakery there will be no cross contamination,” Ms Mew said.

“I’ll be able to go across the board with gluten free options from icing sugar to corn flour.”

Ms Mew will not only prepare her signature cookies for those with special dietary requirements such as coeliac and Crohn’s disease but will be producing her own jams, pastries, pies and eventually ice cream.

“When Christmas comes up I’ll even be making special gingerbread houses … it will be a sight to see for my little chocolate factory,” she said.

The baking connoisseur said she was looking forward to making her own signature gluten free bread, a recipe she had perfected over the last 15 years.

When her ingredients arrived from interstate in the coming weeks she said she’ll be all but ready to open after finishing her decor and minor renovations.

“My bread is salad sandwich friendly, it’s really nice and soft … everything’s going to be absolutely stunning,” she said.
