Craft beer gurus from Blackflag Brewing have begun their maiden voyage into the northern end of the Sunshine Coast with a new brewhouse, as exclusive vision of their new site is revealed.

A half-pipe, food trucks and hundreds of tins combined for the grand opening of the company’s new bar and brewery in Coolum Beach’s industrial park on Saturday, October 30.

The site, 18 months in the making, was built from the ground up and will cater to the growing demand for Blackflag Brewing’s beers across the Coast.

Chief executive Steven Barber said the new venue would streamline operations following a marathon search for a site across the Sunshine Coast, Gympie and Brisbane for more than a year.

The new venue encompasses a tasting room, canning line cold room and the ability to hold up to 40 brewery tanks across 2500 sqm.

Upstairs is filled wall to wall with seating along with televisions in front of a 20m long mural painted by chief creative director Ross Holloway, along with a bar and standing area.

Mr Barber said he and the other five directors were “stoked” with the logistics of the site as they’d be able to brew their beer in Coolum Beach for trucks ready to distribute.

Even though the team was moving into the large industrial site, Mr Barber said the company was crowd-funding to raise capital to expand again.

“We haven’t even got it running and we need a bigger site, it’s demand man,” Mr Barber said.

“It’s going out quicker than we can make it.”

Live music was the next step for the brewing giant, pending approvals from the Sunshine Coast Council along with a courtesy bus for their punters.

Originally launching in 2019 prior to the pandemic, the boys have weathered the storm and continued to thrive from their home base in Mooloolaba.

Mr Barber said after testing the market several years through contract brewing, they were excited to see what the future held for their ales.
