Motorcyclist in serious condition after collision sparks hwy gridlock

A serious collision between a motorcycle and sedan on the Bruce Highway at Forest Glen on Monday afternoon has sparked a reminder from police.

A police officer has spoken about how “lucky” a motorbike rider was after he collided with another vehicle on the Bruce Highway yesterday afternoon.

Senior Constable Tony Noble, of the Sunshine Coast Crash Investigative Unit, attended the scene of the Forest Glen collision near the Mons Rd intersection around 5pm on Monday afternoon.

“(The motorbike rider) was seen riding southbound on the highway and he has tried to do a lane change and has collided with another vehicle,” Constable Noble said.

“Everything just fell to pieces when (the bike) hit the back of the sedan.”

The Forest Glen crash left a man with serious injuries.

The motorcyclist, a 28-year-old Kingston man, was taken by ambulance to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a serious condition.

He sustained injuries to his head and multiple abrasions after his green Kawasaki motorbike rear-ended a silver Mitsubishi sedan and caught fire briefly.

The 33-year-old female driver of the car was not injured.

Constable Noble said the motorbike rider was “very, very lucky” as he was only wearing a helmet and had “very little” protective equipment on.

The Forest Glen crash left a man with serious injuries.

“As a bike rider myself, going out there without the gear on is quite risky,” he told the Sunshine Coast Daily.

“If you fall off a motorbike you are going to get injured no matter what, but if you are wearing your work clothes and nothing protective you’re in a whole world of hurt.”

Evening commuters were significantly delayed after the crash led to the closure of all but one lane.

Police have asked anyone who saw the Kawasaki motorcycle travelling in the Forest Glen area, and anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage of the incident to come forward.
