A Sunshine Coast teacher who was crowned best on the job in the region has shared what she loves most about the profession.
Holly Couchman from Baringa State Primary School was voted best teacher on the Sunshine Coast in this publication’s poll earlier this month, receiving 17 per cent of votes.
She was followed by Mandy Kent from Bli Bli State School and Tamra Philpott from Beerwah State School, both receiving 1o per cent of votes each.
Ms Couchman said she was certainly not expecting to win the title of best teacher.
“I was quite surprised to win to be honest,” she said.
She gave her thanks to everyone who voted in the poll.
“Thanks so much to everyone who voted, it really means a lot,” Ms Couchman said.
She noted it was nice to feel appreciated not just personally, but also for what all teachers do on the daily.
“It’s a big job with a lot of heart behind it, so it’s lovely when that gets recognised,” Ms Couchman said.
In her 14 years of teaching, Ms Couchman has come to love that no two days are ever the same.
“The relationships we build with our students are such a special part of the job,” she said.
“I teach Year 6, and I honestly I love the banter, it’s such a fun age group.
“Sharing a laugh with the kids and having those lighthearted moments is often the best part of the day and what keeps us going.”
