George Street Confidential: Labor snaps back over COVID breach MP
Our revelations about a Labor MP apparently flouting social distancing at his birthday bash have triggered a political tit-for-tat over who’s breaking the rules.

Our exclusive extravaganza last weekend about Duncan “Peggy” Pegg’s dominance on the dance floor has sparked an ugly tit-for-tat political spat about social distancing.
For that, we humbly beg forgiveness.

After Peggy’s boogying with a belly dancer was revealed, the Labor machine hit top gear to churn out examples of Liberal National MPs and candidates not following COVID-19 health advice.
And there were plenty.
Then Health Minister Steven Miles chimed in with a full-frontal assault on Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington for not wearing a mask on a recent commercial flight.
“Deb Frecklington should lead by example, but then again she has said she will make her own health advice on borders and funerals, now it’s masks too,” harrumphed Miles.
Clearly the Government didn’t do a show of hands in Cabinet to see whether ministers had been “leading by example” and wearing masks on flights.
Several ministers were spotted recently getting on a plane without masks, but insisted they donned them during the flight.
Attorney-General Yvette D’Ath at least went for the honesty policy and professed she’d erred.
“I’ve worn masks on recent flights, but on this occasion I didn’t, and I regret that,” she said.
On for young and old
Speaking of leading by example, Queensland Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young has been whopping it up at the Brisbane Festival.
Dr Young has been scoring VIP seats throughout the event, and even snagged a spot next to Governor Paul de Jersey one night.
And so she should have, after providing advice that the arty festival must go on.
Dr Young was back again on Thursday night, and our spies tell us all the plastic seating was rather close and masks must have been optional.
Nobody tell Steven Miles.
And someone who really should wear a mask (or perhaps a muzzle) is former dentist John-Paul Langbroek.
The one-time LNP leader, who is now the party’s multicultural affairs spokesman, told 25 new Australians during a Gold Coast citizenship ceremony that if they come from troubled countries “please don’t bring those problems here”.
It follows hot on the heels of JPL sharing a rather crass cartoon featuring Annastacia Palaszczuk and Jeannette Young on social media.
Thanks a lot Eddie
And while on the Gold Coast, just who the hell does Eddie McGuire think he is?
The Pies president has taken up residence in the Gold Coast Convention Centre to film his Who Wants to be a Millionaire? show after striking a deal with the Queensland Government.
But that’s forced the centre to have a rather sheepish conversation with Local Government Association supremo Greg Hallam – who is a bit of a big deal in these parts – about how he’ll have to find new digs for his annual conference.
Luckily, The Star casino has found space for Hallam and his council comrades.
