But George Street Confidential readers have drawn our attention to the fact the artist’s impression looks suspiciously like the park ’n’ ride recently announced for Springfield Central station.
In fact, it doesn’t just look similar, it looks exactly the same.
Same cars, same people, same trees and even the same clouds.
Interestingly, the Springfield version was costed at $44.5 million when announced in July last year and would deliver an additional 650 car park spaces.
“We only have one opportunity to plan and design this properly and I want to ensure that we deliver the best outcome for the community,” local MP Charis Mullen said at the time.
Well it turns out that wasn’t quite right.
Despite the striking similarities, the Redlands version was going to cost $50.5 million, according to the Premier, but they’d squeezed 713 spaces in the latest design.
Cynics might suggest that Labor rushed out the latest announcement because Redlands is one of the party’s most marginal seats, and a must-win if Palaszczuk wants to cling to power.
But we’re confident this is all just a coincidence, and besides, it may have even saved a few dollars on graphic design.
