Thunderstorms ripped through the Southern Downs less than a fortnight ago Stanthorpe is set for a week of blue skies, but experts are predicting temperatures to plummet by the end of the week.
Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Matt Marshall said the tropical moisture that brought storms to the region recently had well and truly dried up.
He said daytime temperatures in Stanthorpe would sit just under 20 degrees before dropping down to about 17 degrees later in the week.
Meanwhile, Warwick would be slightly warmer and would reach a top of about 20 to 22 degrees, Mr Marshall said.
“It’s not quite winter, but we only have a week to go and it’s going to be a little bit cool,” he said.
“We’ll see a weak front come through on Thursday and knock temperatures down.”
But Stanthorpe would really start to shiver once the sun went down.
While Warwick would see overnight temperatures of about 7 degrees, Stanthorpe could see temperatures as low as just 1 degree on Friday morning.
A high-pressure system has also dashed any hopes for rainfall for this week.
“That’s pretty normal for this time of year,” Mr Marshall said.
“They’re slow-moving and tend to stick around for a week or so and we get stuck in a pattern that’s fairly consistent.”
