A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for the Darling Downs with wild weather likely to also affect the Southern Downs region.
The weather is being caused by a mix of tropical moisture that has been drawn inland meeting a trough sitting in the upper atmosphere in the state’s south.

Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Shane Kennedy said the mix of instability was the ideal recipe to create the stormy weather.
Mr Kennedy said while Warwick had already seen a day of unstable weather, storm activity was still ongoing across the region.
“Activity will also continue to the northeast of Warwick throughout the evening,” he said.
Despite the storm session ending in April, Mr Kennedy said whether events like this were not unlikely.
“It can certainly happen when there’s enough tropical moisture,” he said.
“We can start to see cold fronts push further north and overlap and we get the ingredients for a thunderstorm.
“May is a month of change and instability.”
